Got Decision Fatigue?
Being an adult in this world of unending options and all-access 24/7 can be really challenging. It’s no wonder that us modern day adults want set-it-and-forget-it solutions. We can show up at a fitness class and be told exactly what to do. We have algorithms to recommend what shows we will enjoy. Some have the ability to outsource a lot of things in their lives. And yet, even the choices within these options to apparently create ease and simplify are seemingly endless.
Even if you take out the options that exist outside of yourself that are being presented to you and just go inside your regular everyday life, you will find that you make thousands of tiny decisions every day. It’s no wonder our will is eroded and we feel exhausted at the end of the day.
After listening to Brené Brown’s interview with Dr. Amishi Jha on how our brains function to pay attention and focus, it confirmed many of the things I was already feeling and inherently knew: slowing down is so important. Additionally, practicing mindfulness can be hugely beneficial to reversing the effects of decision fatigue and attention erosion. Trust me, this fact really annoys me too. Mindfulness feels a tad cliché and played out these days, but there is science to prove that it works. I don’t know about you, but I sure would love more capacity for attention, focus, and presence in my life.
As parents to young children, I have experienced firsthand how I don’t let myself slow down enough to even recognize that I am not being present. Not only do I have to make thousands of small decisions for myself each day, I also make a lot of decisions for the little humans I am responsible for. It’s no wonder, in this world of endless choice and distractibility, that by the end of the day I hit a very real decision fatigue wall, and the threat of tipping into overwhelm is right there. Knowing this, I wanted to create a one-day experience for moms, where you can simply show up and be.
What makes Moms Day Off unique is that I have curated a day that involves time in nature, movement, nourishing food, connection with other moms, and a mindfulness practice (lead by the incredible Ashley Brodeur). All things I struggle to make time for in my every day life.
Leave the decisions to someone else for a change and come away with me to the mountains for a restorative day off. You won’t regret it!
